New addition to the online catalogue!

Following the successful conclusion of the ‘Adopt a Glass Plate Negative’ sponsorship campaign, we’re delighted to announce that 78 glass plate negatives by photographer Scipio Mactaggart have been conserved, repackaged, digitised and added to the Argyll Estates Archives online catalogue!

Visit the catalogue to learn more and view these hugely important early images of Inveraray from the 1860s and ‘70s: https://www.argyll-papers.com/scipio-mactaggart-glass…

We’re hugely grateful to all who ‘adopted’ a negative; to the Scottish Conservation Studio for carrying out the work; and to TownsWeb Archiving for digitising the plates and converting them from negative to positive format. Special thanks also go to Mary Davidson and Sandy Young for generously gifting the plates to the archives.

As the catalogue entry states, the archivists are especially keen to identify the sitters in Scipio’s studio portraits, so please do get in touch if you can put names to these faces from the past.
