Join us online via Zoom on Friday 12 December 2025 at 19:30 UK time to hear David Hopkins present ‘Scottish Battlefield Memorials of the First World War’.

The monuments and cemeteries designed and built by the Imperial (now Commonwealth) War Graves Commission on the Western Front are familiar landmarks on the former battlefields of the First World War. Less well known are the monuments raised by individual army units commemorating their own particular “feats of arms”, one of which was unveiled by Niall Diarmid Campbell, 10th Duke of Argyll. This talk will look at several monuments raised in the years following the First World War by Scottish military units to draw out what they say about the commemoration of participation in war by Scots.
